Buccal Massage
There are places in the body where we carry tension without realizing it.
The jaw. The cheeks. The small muscles around the mouth that quietly hold our stress, our habits, and sometimes even our emotions.
This month, I'm introducing a new service at Peaceful Progress Massage: Buccal Massage.
Buccal massage is a specialized technique that works with the muscles of the face both externally and from inside the mouth. By accessing these deeper layers, it allows tension in the jaw, cheeks, and surrounding facial structures to release in ways that traditional facial or jaw work sometimes can't reach.
It's not just about the jaw.
These muscles are closely connected with the neck, head, and nervous system. When they soften, many people notice a sense of overall unwinding…not just in the face, but throughout the body.
What Buccal Massage Can Support
Buccal work can be helpful for people who experience:
•Jaw clenching or teeth grinding
•TMJ / TMD discomfort
•Facial tension or headaches
•Tightness from stress or long hours of speaking or chewing
•Neck tension connected to the jaw
•Facial fatigue or stiffness
It can also simply be a way to bring awareness and relief to a part of the body that rarely receives intentional care.
What the Session Feels Like
Buccal massage is precise, slow, and focused.
During the intraoral portion, I wear gloves and work gently but intentionally with the muscles inside the cheeks while supporting them from the outside. Many clients describe the sensation as deep release paired with surprising relief, especially in areas they didn't realize were holding tension.
This work can be done as a standalone session or as an add-on to a therapeutic massage.
A Natural Extension of My Work
If you've been coming to me for myofascial work, you already know how much tension can shift when we slow down and give the body time to release.
Buccal massage is another way of doing exactly thatjust in a part of the body that's often overlooked.
If your jaw has been asking for some attention, this may be the kind of support it's been waiting for.
Appointments are now available.
If you're curious whether buccal work might be a good fit for you, feel free to ask at your next visit or schedule online.
Warmly,
Christie
